Meaning we could tell them the service was out for say an hour on this day/time, but they couldn’t see it on their tools dashboard. They didn't take a step back and realize why people were rushing/grinding the first place. Want to rush Mallcrasher, or deposit some of the loot into the van before it leaves? Haha, too bad, now you have to wait for the helicopter all the time, and if you want all the loot, you need four players. Oh, now there is also a mandatory waiting period for the van too. Oh, people are rushing Rats? Let's make it so you must cook three bags of meth, and if you fail on a certain difficulty, it sets a blazing inferno on the entire map. People are rushing Ukrainian Job, okay, let's introduce Titan Safes. The negative experience thing came after people were initially complaning about rushing various heists, and Overkill pretty much addressed these people and their complaints at face value. You'd expect that to be fixed first, but Overkill for some reason didn't decide on that. So why ignore that problem and instead ask to remove the negative XP on repetitive heists? It seems to me that if the unbalanced XP was the real problem here, you'd ask for that to be fixed first. Originally posted by Padanew.if the payout/xp per heist was balanced better in the first place, we wouldn't see the repetition of heists being so prevalent. Robbing banks and shooting cops are the draw to the game, not staring at random jobs popping up on a screen that you may or may not want to run. Staring at is not a fun feature of the game. You're penalized no matter what, but in order to gain the benefit of the bonus xp modifier you have to spend x amount of time waiting for said job to pop up on. You only receive the bonus xp if you find the job for free off of, but you always receive the negative modifier regardless of whether you purchased the job or found it on. If I purchase a job that I have a bonus xp modifier for I will not receive the bonus xp. If I purchase a contract that I have a negative xp modifier for I'll receive the negative modifier at the end of the job. The positive bonus imo is enough to nudge players towards how you'd like, but to me it doesn't make any sense to punish people who want to play your game how they'd like.Īnother thing about the positive/negative xp thing is purchasing job contracts. Punishing people who want to play your game a certain way is not a good way to go about manipulating them into playing it the way you'd like. The negative xp tactic is not a good one. Next, What You Care Aboutīecause VMware Fusion does not yet support Windows 7, there are some tweaks you’ll have to do.įirst, go ahead and download the Windows 7 ISO from Microsoft’s Windows 7 Beta site and get yourself a beta product key. We plan to support Windows 7 after it is released. – Use the Windows Server 2008 option to create your VM Based on commentary in our VMware Fusion forums, the best experience with Windows 7 beta with Fusion results from the following VMware settings: Windows 7 beta, both 32-bit and 64-bit, is not supported with VMware Fusion, but many VMware product features appear to work well today including Drag and Drop, Unity, and more. So, we wanted to take the opportunity to show you that Windows 7, like Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 98, and pretty much any other Intel-based OS (Linux too!) will run in a VM with VMware Fusion, and give some guidance on how to set things up for best success. The Macs are twice as fast, and the software’s much more mature. Also, this isn’t Mac virtualization of the sort you may have seen in early 2007. This is virtualization, with direct CPU access, and all the speed that entails. This isn’t Virtual PC for Mac, which emulated the Intel chip in software. Not just that, but Windows on the Mac nowadays isn’t your father’s Windows on Mac. The list goes on and on, but you get the point. This kind of old-school thinking is a bit of a bummer, as there are tens of thousands of great Windows-only applications that Mac users can’t access without virtualized Windows apps, like Microsoft’s Photosynth on Mac, Worldwide Telescope on Mac, or Microsoft’s new Songsmith on the Mac, not to mention things like Google Chrome on Mac. Instead, you get people sitting back and saying “Windows on Mac? Ew!” because they haven’t really had the opportunity to learn any better. And unlike VMware Fusion, which has a fully-functional 30-day trial for anyone to play with, Microsoft doesn’t typically provide trial access to operating systems in a way conducive to playing around in a VMware virtual machine-like an OS disk image, for example.Īs such, a lot of Mac users who aren’t recent switchers, haven’t taken the opportunity to play around with the idea of Windows on the Mac, and as a result haven’t seen how fast, stable, and easy it can be. One of the costs associated with running Windows on the Mac is the cost of Windows. Anyone can go and download the Windows 7 bits, and get a beta serial key that’s good through July 1st, 2009. Git yer free trial Windows! Six months to see what you think of Windows on Mac!Īnother cool thing about the Windows 7 Beta, is that it’s free to use for anyone. So we wanted to take the time to share best practices on how to make this happen, with screenshots and video of the process to make it nice and easy for you. Well guess what: this is certainly the case with Windows 7 and VMware Fusion, too. So, for me, this won’t work as I’m printing checks out of Quicken PC.There’s been a lot of buzz flying around about Microsoft’s next big operating system, Windows 7, which just entered public beta.Īs our readers know, a great way to start testing out a new operating system is in a virtual machine, where you can see how it works without having to dedicate a whole physical machine. That did allow me to send a file through to the printer, but the formatting was not right. I also attempted to use the technique titled: There are others in the vmWare Fusion forum complaining about USB problems. That means if I want to ‘Connect a printer directly to a virtual machine through USB’ - the only thing I know to do is re-install vmWare Tools. I then decided to see if I could reconnect the printer - no go. As soon as I finished using the printer from within Fusion - I ‘disconnected’ the printer from the Virtual Machine menu. In order to get this to work I had to uninstall and reinstall vmWare Tools. ’ Connecting a printer directly to a virtual machine through USB'.I can't say I've tested it extensively, but there is one bug I’ve discovered - accessing usb devices such as your printer is a problem. I upgraded to 10.11.4 and am running Windows 7 in Fusion 6.0.6 - it's partially compatible. Just in case someone else stumbles upon this. I'm surprised and amazed at how popular it has become and I can't really explain it.' I have become good but my wife is much better and does them in about half the time. 'This is light relief and anybody, including immigrants who don't speak the native language, can do it. They published the puzzle the following month and it took off. 'I turned up unannounced at the Times, like an old-fashioned travelling salesman, and got my foot in the door. 'I was on my way to Hong Kong via London,' Gould, 59, recalled. Then last October Sudoku spread to Britain. Gould published one of his puzzles in the local newspaper, the Conway Daily Sun, with success. Gould's wife, Gaye, is a professor of linguistics in New Hampshire in the United States. Over the next six years I developed a computer program that makes up Sudoku puzzles on the spot.' 'As soon as I saw the grid with the empty squares, I felt very tempted to fill them in. While he waited for one shop to open, he browsed in a bookstore. Wayne Gould, a judge who had moved to Hong Kong, was shopping in Tokyo in March 1997. But a man from Matamata, New Zealand, was to become responsible for a global outbreak. The new Sudoku meme remained virtually confined to the Far East for 20 years. From its publication in 1984, it became a sensation in a country where the alphabet is ill-suited to crosswords. Publisher Nikoli made two small improvements to the concept and renamed it Sudoku - in Japanese Su means a number and doku roughly translates as singular or unique. There is a universality to it and it becomes addictive.'Īs Dell continued to quietly churn out Number Place through the Eighties, it was spotted, imitated and embraced in puzzle-obsessed Japan. Although some are more difficult than others, the concept is easy to grasp and it doesn't take for ever to solve. It's accessible to most people and that's part of the charm. But we didn't suspect it would become a global phenomenon.' We decided to feature it more and produced a complete book of Number Place puzzles. Taylor said: 'It was only about five or six years ago that we got a lot more mail from people who said they enjoyed it. We called the puzzle Number Place and still do today.'įor years Dell continued to publish Number Place among numerous other brain teasers. Its editor-in-chief, Abby Taylor, who joined in 1980, said: 'No one knows exactly when it started or who devised it, but the oldest copy I can find in our archive is 1979. The realisation that this could become a popular phenomenon was made in Manhattan, New York in the late 1970s by Dell Puzzle Magazines, which has been producing crosswords and other puzzles since 1931. More than two centuries later, the difference for Sudoku players is that the grid is subdivided into blocks of nine. Euler had come up with a grid in which every number or sym bol appears once in each row or column. The Sudoku story began in 1783 when Leonhard Euler, a Swiss mathematician, devised 'Latin Squares', which he described as 'a new kind of magic squares'. The requirement is logic or, for those willing to engage in a fiendish game of trial and error, sheer patience. The goal is to fill in the empty squares so that the figures 1 to 9 appear just once in every row, column and individual block. Dubbed the Rubik's Cube of the 21st century, it consists of a grid of 81 squares, divided into nine blocks of nine squares each. Sudoku - pronounced soo-doe-koo - does not require general knowledge, linguistic ability or even mathematical skill. It is using our brains to propagate itself across the world like an infectious virus.' Dr Susan Blackmore, author of The Meme Machine, said: 'This puzzle is a fantastic study in memetics. Scientists have identified Sudoku as a classic meme - a mental virus which spreads from person to person and sweeps across national boundaries. But its true modern origins lie with a team of puzzle constructors in 1970s' New York, from where it set off on a 25-year journey to Tokyo, London - and back to New York. "Sudoku."
